Recommended Builds

Below are our recommended builds for 2k18. Most builds can be effective, but these are the best in our opinion. We will continue to add to these builds as the meta changes. Have a build that you think should be on this list? Message us on Twitter and let us know.

We recommend max wingspan for every build.

ProAm

Primary Ball Handler / Secondary Shooter >

This is a pass first build that can still shoot at an effective rate to run the point guard position in a 4 or 5 out ProAm offense. This build is quick with the ball and capable of beating his man off the dribble. Favor layups over dunks as you will get blocked less but do not expect to hit contested layups consistently.

PG Sharpshooting Playmaker 6’5 175

Who to Watch

Fab is the one of the best guys to watch for this build. He is the point guard for SlightWork. You can follow him on twitter but he does not stream. Slightwork often matches up against comp and it is easy to find streams where he is on the opposing team.

Additionally, Vandy TNB runs this build very effectively. He streams on Twitch here and you can follow him on Twitter here.

Primary Defender / Secondary Shooter >

Every ProAm team needs a 3 and D guy. Yes, you’re going to sit in a corner on offense. But your job is to stop the other teams best player from dropping 40 on you. You want to be tall to contest shots from further away. For ProAm you want your Lockdown to be a SG to drop the badges and attributes of opposing point guards, shooting guards and small forwards.

Position Archetype Height Weight
SG Sharpshooting Lockdown 6’7 Max

Who to Watch

NateIsland from IslandGang is a great example of who to learn this build from. You can catch him in SlayIslands stream here and you can follow him on Twitter here.

Point Forward >

This oversized Point Forward build uses size and speed to blow by opponents and finish at the rim successfully. This build should also be able to hit 3s at a respectable rate. Very balanced defensively and should be able to hold his own anywhere on the court.

Position Archetype Height Weight
SF Pure Point Forward 6’10 Max

Who to Watch

WhiteChocolate is know as one of the best with this build. His twitch is here and you can follow him on Twitter here.

Primary Finishing / Secondary Shot Creator Power Forward >

Power Forward can be a difficult role to fill but we believe this is the most effective build to do so. Expect to shoot near 60% from 3 in the corner once you have your shot down. This build can rebound and finish very well and will very rarely miss from mid range.

Position Archetype Height Weight
PF Shot Creating Finisher 6’10 Max

Who to Watch

Ramo from Team SpaceJam is a perfect example of how to run this build. He streams on twitch and you can follow him on twitter here.

Primary Stretch / Secondary Rebounding >

This build is designed for a 5 out offense that places the center on the wing. You should expect to hit 3s at a very high level while still being able to hold your own on the defensive end and on the glass. Don’t be afraid to shoot slightly contested 3s with this build as you will likely be 6-7 inches taller than the player at the top of the 2-3 zone.

Position Archetype Height Weight
C Rebounding Stretch 7’3 294

Who to Watch

Mooty of team Throwdown is the guy to watch for this build. You can see Throwdown stream from DevGoss’s perspective here and you can follow Mooty on twitter here.

Primary Rebounding / Secondary Stretch >

Once again we have a big man build that focuses on being effective in a 5 out offense. The high strength on the rebounding primary will allow this build to be slightly more useful in the paint but you will sacrifice some shooting consistency.

Position Archetype Height Weight
C Stretch Rebounder 7’3 340

Who to Watch

WorthingColt from HG does a great job with this build. You can see him stream here and you can follow Mooty on twitter here.

Park

Primary Park Ball Handler / Shooter >

A strong build for running the point guard in the park. This build gets shooting badges while maintaining a high speed with ball. Favor layups over dunks and dont expect to finish consistently inside. Reverse layups are your friend.

Position Archetype Height Weight
PG Sharpshooting Playmaker 6’5 175

Primary Park Ball Handler / Pass First >

This build can do a little bit of everything. Expect to shoot around 50% from 3. At 6’8 you will almost always be taller than your matchup which will help on the defensive end and will help you with contested layups.

Position Archetype Height Weight
SG Pure Playmaker 6’8 Max

Shooting Park Big Man >

This build relies purely on the fact that 3s are worth more than 2s. You will give up some points in the paint but you should be able to force enough stops and hit enough 3s that this build will outshine any inside big build in the park. Hover at limitless range on offense to pull the big man out of the paint and allow your guards to attack the rim. Catch and Shoot with this build is lethal.

Position Archetype Height Weight
SF Pure Sharp 6’10 Default

Builds We Avoid

  • Post Scoring primary. Inconsistent at best this year.
  • Pure Lockdown. Unless you are a top tier player you will be useless on offense
  • Any build under 6’4
